Frequently asked questions

How is this different from the JSON Viewer?

This tool is specifically for formatting, validating, and minifying JSON text. The JSON Viewer is a separate tool for tree-structure browsing with syntax highlighting. They don't overlap — each serves a different need.

Can I use a tab character for indentation?

Yes — alongside 2-space and 4-space options, a tab-indent option is also available.

What happens when the JSON has a syntax error?

The tool shows the actual error message from the browser's native JSON.parse (including roughly where the problem is), and keeps your original input untouched — it never clears the input box.
