WHAT IS BASE64 ENCODER/DECODER?

Base64 Encoder/Decoder processes everything locally in your browser — your data is never uploaded. Supports text encoding/decoding, Base64URL format, and image to Base64 Data URI conversion.

Features Explained

  1. Text → Base64 (Encode): Converts any text (including Chinese, emoji) to a Base64 string using UTF-8 — no garbled characters.
  2. Base64 → Text (Decode): Restores Base64 to original text. Invalid input triggers an immediate red error message.
  3. Base64URL Mode: Replaces + with -, / with _, and removes = padding — producing a URL-safe format used in JWTs and OAuth tokens.
  4. Real-time conversion: Output updates instantly as you type — no button press needed.
  5. Character count: Both input and output show character counts for quick size reference.
  6. Image → Base64: Switch to the "Image → Base64" tab, drag or click to upload an image, and get the full Data URI (e.g. data:image/png;base64,...) for use in HTML or CSS.
  7. Copy / Download: Copy the output to clipboard or download it as a .txt file.

What is Base64?

  1. Base64 is an encoding method that converts binary data to plain text using only 64 characters: A-Z, a-z, 0-9, +, and /.
  2. Commonly used to safely transmit binary content (images, files) inside JSON, XML, HTTP headers, and emails.
  3. Base64URL is the URL-safe variant used in JWTs, OAuth tokens, and other URL-embedded scenarios.

How to use?

Frequently asked questions

What is Base64 encoding used for?

Safely transmit binary data in URLs, JSON, HTML (images), JWT tokens, email attachments, and more.

Does the tool support file-to-Base64 conversion?

Yes. Upload an image or file and the tool outputs the corresponding Base64 string.

Does Base64 increase data size?

Yes, by ~33%, since every 3 bytes become 4 ASCII characters.

  1. Pick encode or decode and paste your text (or switch to the image tab and upload an image).
  2. The output updates as you type; use Base64URL for URL- and JWT-friendly output.
  3. Copy the result or download it as a .txt file.
