Password-protect a PDF with AES-256 in your browser. Your file and password never leave your device, and the password cannot be recovered.
Your PDF and password are processed locally in your browser. They are never uploaded to JoeLucky, stored, or logged.
Protecting a PDF encrypts the file. Keep your password safe; JoeLucky does not store or recover it.
Uses AES-256 encryption with an open password. This tool does not add copy/print restrictions — those permission flags are advisory and not every PDF viewer enforces them.
Merge PDF files client-side without upload
Open →Compress PDF files client-side, with a non-destructive "preserve document" mode and a smaller-file "rasterize" mode
Open →Split a PDF by page ranges, every N pages, or custom groups — original page content is fully preserved

Protect PDF sets an open password on your PDF using AES-256, right in your browser: without the password the content cannot be read. Neither the file nor the password leaves your device or is stored.
Yes. The file is encrypted with AES-256 using the standard PDF security handler (PDF 2.0 / ISO 32000-2), so its content cannot be opened without the password — it is not a UI-only password, a renamed extension or a zip wrapper. The tool also verifies its own output: it must be refused without the password and reopen with it.
It cannot be recovered. The password exists only in your browser’s memory — JoeLucky never stores, logs or transmits it — so it cannot be reset or retrieved for you. Keep it safe, and consider keeping an unencrypted original somewhere secure.
This tool does not offer that. It sets an open password. PDF "no copy / no print" permission flags are advisory and not every viewer enforces them, so we do not claim that kind of protection. Anyone who knows the password can use the file normally.
