PX / REM / EM Converter

Convert between px, rem and em with a custom root font size, including a batch list mode.

rem is always calculated relative to this root font-size.

em is calculated relative to this separate parent/context font-size — not the root size above.

WHAT IS PX / REM / EM CONVERTER?

The PX/REM/EM Converter converts between the three CSS units — rem is relative to the root font-size, while em is relative to a separately adjustable context font-size.

How to use?

  1. Adjust the root font-size and context font-size as needed.
  2. Switch between single-value and batch-list mode to convert.

Frequently asked questions

What's the real difference between rem and em?

rem is always relative to the root element's (usually html) font-size, no matter how deeply nested. em is relative to the current element's (or its parent's) font-size, and compounds when nested. This tool deliberately keeps their input fields separate so the two are never conflated.

Are there limits on the batch mode's number format?

Enter one number per line; decimals are supported. A line that can't be parsed is clearly flagged as an error in the results table, rather than being silently skipped or treated as 0.

Does this tool parse my CSS files?

No. V1 only converts individual values — parsing and auto-converting a whole CSS file is a planned V2 feature, not included here.
