WHAT IS FRACTION CALCULATOR?

Fraction Calculator adds, subtracts, multiplies, and divides two fractions using exact integer arithmetic (GCD-based reduction) — never floating-point for the fraction result itself.

Features

  1. Results are automatically reduced to lowest terms, with a mixed-number and decimal approximation shown when applicable.
  2. Negative fractions and improper fractions are supported; a zero denominator is explicitly rejected.
  3. When dividing, the second fraction’s numerator cannot be 0.

How to use?

  1. Enter two fractions (e.g. 3/4).
  2. Choose add, subtract, multiply, or divide.
  3. The result updates instantly — click “Copy result” or “Reset”.

Frequently asked questions

Is the result computed with floating-point math?

No — every fraction operation (add/subtract/multiply/divide, and GCD-based reduction) uses exact integer arithmetic. Only the extra decimal approximation shown alongside it uses floating-point, and it is clearly labeled as an approximation.

Can I enter negative or improper fractions?

Yes — both negative fractions and improper fractions (numerator larger than denominator) are supported; the sign is normalized and the result reduced automatically.

What happens when dividing by a fraction whose numerator is 0?

A clear error is shown, since that is equivalent to dividing by zero, which is mathematically undefined.
