WHAT IS RANDOM SEATING CHART GENERATOR?

Paste a roster and seat it at random. Supports classroom rows, group tables and U shape, with locked seats, keep-apart and sit-together rules and front-row needs, and PNG, PDF or print export. Names stay in your browser.

How to use?

  1. Choose a layout and set the rows and seats per row.
  2. Paste or upload the roster and press Apply roster.
  3. Set adjacency rules, front-row needs and locked seats if you want, then press Arrange seats.
  4. Fine-tune with swap, lock and disable-seat modes, switch between student and teacher view, then download PNG or PDF or print.

Notes

  • Up to 300 students and 400 seats.
  • If you switch computers or clear browser data, import the roster again. Use Export project for a backup.

Frequently asked questions

Are student names uploaded?

No. The roster stays in your browser (local storage) and is never sent to a server, analytics tool or third party.

What happens when the rules contradict each other?

The tool first explains which rules cannot hold together and never relaxes them on its own. If you accept a few broken rules you can explicitly choose the minimum-conflict option.

Is every arrangement equally likely?

When the rules are not too tight, every valid arrangement is exactly equally likely. When they are very tight the tool builds seats one by one at random: still random, but not guaranteed uniform, and the screen says so.

What counts as adjacent:

Keep these two apart

    Seat these two together

      Seat-area requests

Front is the board. 5 rows: front 2, middle 1, back 2 — no overlap.

      Middle: 1 row(s)

Assigned or locked students: 0. Tap a seat and choose “Assign a student” or “Lock seat”; they stay put when you arrange again.

      Export & project

“Clear all data” deletes the roster, settings and what this browser has saved, and asks for confirmation.

Student names stay in your browser (local storage only). They are never uploaded to a server or sent to any third party or analytics tool. If you switch computers or clear browser data, import the roster again.
