Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between margin and markup?

Margin = profit ÷ revenue × 100%, dividing by revenue; markup = profit ÷ cost × 100%, dividing by cost. They have different denominators and different values — this tool shows both, clearly labeled, to avoid confusion.

What shows if revenue is 0?

Since margin divides by revenue, a 0 revenue makes margin undefined — the tool shows "—" rather than an error or a misleading 0%.

Can cost or revenue be negative?

No — both must be 0 or positive; the tool validates this and shows an error otherwise.
